Short posts

February 4, 2006 by

Here’s a collection of short items from this week. Some don’t necessarily warrant an individual post; others have shown up elsewhere — it’s hard to be first to post when you have a day job! Maybe this will become a regular feature and I’ll come up with a catchier title.

  • Garmin denied reports that they have made a counter offer to acquire Lowrance.
  • Volkswagen released more details on their partnership with Google Earth aimed at realistic 3-D navigation. Via Ogle Earth.
  • Dale DePriest, of GPS Information.net, is posting daily GPS tips.
  • Astute readers of my book, GPS Mapping, may have noticed that the Terrain Navigator Pro color plate has a waypoint labeled "crash site." This was from a known 1942 plane crash that my wife and I stumbled across during a 1999 high Sierra backpacking trip. A crew member was found partially encased in a glacier in the area last year; CNN report yesterday on the identity of the victim.
