hey vie recently purchested a magelan explorist 100 gps recever very cheaply and i was hoping i could put a base map on it or use it in conjunction with a topograghic map any idias?

Hmm, haven’t heard that question before. And I don’t have a RoadMate here to test. If I’m not mistaken, there is no way to get data in and out other than the compact flash card. So I doubt it. But I’m not sure what is stored on the CF card. You can certainly move that. You might want to ask at one of these forums:
