I stumbled across this on the Groundspeak (geocaching.com) GPS discussion board. It seems that Magellan is releasing the eXplorist 500 with a 3 AAA battery pack, instead of the standard li-ion rechargeable battery. Tiger GPS already has it listed for sale, with an availability date of early July 2006.
