Tri-axial compass in next Garmin handhelds?

January 5, 2007 by Rich Owings

Astro220It turns out that the Garmin Astro 220 Dog Tracker comes with a triaxial compass. An astute reader on Geocaching.com’s GPS message board pointed this out. A long time feature of some some Magellan handhelds, it’s nice to see Garmin integrating this feature.

The benefit of a triaxial compass is that you don’t have to hold it level. It’s still going to point the right direction.

Maybe this feature will be found on the next round of Garmin handhelds. Hopefully more announcements will be coming at CES next week. I just haven’t figured out what they would call it…the 60CS 3x ? The 60 Tri-X? I certainly hope Garmin’s marketing people  are better at naming products than I am!
