A story in the International Business Times is causing a stir by predicting that the next generation iPods will include GPS. Research analyst Jesse Totora said:
“The next gen video ipod[s] are expected to include a wider touch screen, wi-fi and GPS.”
He also suggested that Apple was positioning the iPod to be the digital hub in your car, handling navigation, music and video content. The article goes on to say that iPods may contain NAND flash memory instead of hard drives, as soon as late 2007. Internet capability seems to be a possibility too.
I haven’t been all that impressed with iPods myself, and I think that Apple would have some hurdles to overcome before they could reach Garmin’s level of quality. Nevertheless, while they may not be as good as Garmin, so many people love their iPods that Apple could steal a significant market share before their customer base ever tries a Garmin.

A GPS I-Pod ?
Here is the article : Research analyst Jesse Totora said to International Business Times that the next generation i-Pods will include GPS ! The addition of GPS functionality should position the iPod as the central hub for all digital content
The iPod wouldn’t be the iPod without iTunes to manage the music you put on it. I doubt you would see maps and other location-related services shoehorned into iTunes, but possibly other applications that know how to work with a GPS-enabled iPod.
I’m wondering if you might have something closer to an iTunes interface available if this is a full length touch screen like the iPhone.
