It’s been a bit of slow week in terms of GPS news. Nevertheless, here are the links I’ve collected for you…
Garmin
- A great Garmin NASCAR commercial.
- GPS Magazine has words of praise for Garmin’s customer support.
- Garmin has a marathon site for runners. More on GPS for runners.
- Speaking of marathons, this one was reported to be 26.76 miles. But I have to wonder if the GPS is really that accurate.
NAVTEQ and TeleAtlas
- Real-time traffic video from NAVTEQ. How long before we see that on our GPS?
- Curious about what gets changed in NAVTEQ map updates? Here’s a site where you can find out. Via GpsPasSion.
- If your requested update isn’t included yet, don’t hold your breath.
- NAVTEQ maps
the Smithsonian and the National Zoo. I imagine this is part of a
location-based services strategic initiative designed to have NAVTEQ be
a gateway to deep and rich content. - TeleAtlas to deliver more accurate ETAs via partnership with Inrix. More details here.

- Microsoft is developing a mashup maker – PopFly.
- Google Maps does neighborhood search.
- Mobile GMaps version 1.33.09 is out.
- Route avoidances are now available on Google Maps.

- GPS Information reviews Above the Timber’s 1:24,000 scale Colorado topo maps for Garmin receivers.

- Smartphone and PDA compatibility lists for TomTom NAVIGATOR 6.
- Verizon adds more features to VZ Navigator.
