Dash, connected devices and theft recovery

Points of Interest, the new Dash Navigation blog, discusses how their connected technology can assist in the recovery of stolen units

"Because all Dash devices are connected we can push a software update over the cellular link.  If a tester’s device was stolen they couldcall us up, verify their identity, and then we’d send down a software update that replaced all the software on their device with a simple program that said ‘This device has been disabled’.  If you feel this is an error call 1-800-XXX-XXXX’."

My first thought was, why not instruct it to "phone home," providing location data? After all, the Dash Express is a two-way connected device, right?

But then I got to thinking, the location data provided by each unit is supposed to be anonymous. I’m wondering if  Dash could allow you to log into an account and give them the authority to track the device’s location.  This could actually be a big selling point.
