Microsoft to acquire Garmin?

Garmin_logo_pms_rgb

Rumors have been flying all week that Garmin may be purchased by Microsoft, eliciting groans from Garmin aficionados everywhere. I haven’t posted about it because, to date, most has been message board speculation without any links as references.

Today though, Information Week has published a piece on the rumored acquisition, exploring the rationale briefly. There’s still not a lot of substance here, though I did find the following quote interesting, indicating that Garmin may be too rich for Microsoft’ blood!

Garmin would be a huge purchase for Microsoft. The company’s current market cap is almost $24 billion, more than three times that of Navteq. That would equal one massive purchase for Microsoft, whose largest acquisition to this point has been the $6
billion-plus deal for ad company aQuantive in May.
