Garmin sets minimum resale price on nuvi 760

Garmin has set a minimum resale price (MRP) on the Garmin nuvi 760, meaning that you aren’t likely to see steeply discounted prices on it from major GPS vendors anytime in the near future. By doing this, Garmin can maintain a high price, sure to be paid by those of us who want all the bells and whistles, and don’t want to wait.
This explains the $300 price difference we’re seeing between the nuvi 750, which apparently isn’t burdened with such restrictions, and the nuvi 760, which only adds Bluetooth to the 750′s feature set.
Of course, Garmin can only try to enforce these restrictions. That might be easier to do with major retailers and e-tailers. Once a unit has been out awhile and passes from distributors into the hands of those with less of a direct tie to Garmin, all bets are off.
At some point in the future, Garmin will drop the MRP on the nuvi 760, but you can bet that the date is a closely guarded secret.
