"Ultimately I suppose it comes down to how consumers view the cellphone. Actually, even the term cellphone doesn’t really seem to fit the device we will carry around anymore. Does it?"

Roger, I think that this is really the key point here. The evolution of the cell phone is such that what we still call cell phones are really portable, miniature computers. They are not solely designed for calls, but for all sorts of data storage and transmission. And what feature makes as much sense as any for a portable device with data transmission capabilities: a GPS system.

I don't know that Garmin will really be successful with this, but I think that they can see the writing on the wall. If the capabilities of Google's GPS/Android phones and/or iPhone mapping functions can come close to what Garmin does, it will only be a matter of time before they would obsolete Garmin GPS devices with car-only functionality.

A "full-featured" GPS with a quality 3.2MP camera and a good phone is what I'm looking for. I don't want to decide which of these three devices to grab as I walk out the door...I want to grab just ONE. Please, Garmin, do it right and you'll have my business. P.S. I've downloaded only 3 songs in my entire life, so I must be odd!
