UPDATE: Read my hands on Geomate.jr review

With so many manufacturers undercutting the big boys on auto GPS, I should have seen this coming.

It appears that the Apisphere Geomate.jr will be officially launched come Monday, but REI has scooped the company by having it already available for sale on their website. Here’s what we know so far…

Priced at $69.95, the monochrome Geomate.jr will come pre-loaded with around 250,000 geocaches covering all 50 states. Billed as a “family-friendly” GPS, it will include size, terrain and difficulty ratings for each geocache. It appears that you can set one waypoint to guide you back home. There will be an optional update kit that will allow you to load additional caches.

We should have more information come Monday. Here’s hoping they can offer a low-cost device in a more sustainable manner than some of the auto GPS manufacturers.

Hat tip to @gpsreview and @workerofwood.
