NJ legislator: Don’t touch that GPS

GPS driving ban Looks like those hands-free cell phone laws and bans on texting while driving may soon apply to GPS if one New Jersey legislator gets his way. L. Harvey Smith, a Democratic Assemblyman, has introduced a bill that would make it illegal to program a non-voice command GPS while driving.

It’s true, you shouldn’t be messing with your GPS on the move. Nor should you eat, drink, change radio stations, or get into a distracting conversation with a passenger. But really, how many distractions can you legislate against? And while its nice to provide an exception for the Assemblyman’s well-heeled friends, having tried many voice-command models, I have to say that they aren’t that much less of a distraction.

You forgot listening to the radio or CD player – very distracting. Also you shouldn’t text while driving, for sure.

I live in NJ… I am disgusted by our politicians! I am 44 and have lived here all my life, this state is killing me. Why don’t these stupid politicians concentrate on reducing our INSANE property taxes instead of worrying about making more laws that are mostly impossible to enforce. I give up, I’m moving to…. give some ideas.

  3. Ted H. says:

Another absolutely useless politician’s idea of working for the citizens! How many useless laws do we need that are already impossible to enforce? The US and State governments are becoming the laughing stock of the world with debt and useless laws and lawmakers.
