A great GPS deal today and more to come

September 30, 2009 by

Amazon has the voice command Garmin nuvi 850 for $164.99 today (Wednesday, September 30) only! It’s their deal of the day. This is an amazing price, $25 lower than I’ve ever seen before. This seems as good of an occasion as any to announce that my GPS Deals site now has its own Twitter account. [...]

September 29, 2009 by

UPDATE: Garmin has confirmed an October 4 availability date. Engadget is reporting that the long-awaited Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60 will be available at AT&T stores next week. They’ve included an FAQ for sales staff, but as I was prepping this post, I came across a flash demo on the Garmin-Asus website that showcases some interesting capabilities.

September 25, 2009 by

After a day in which we saw the TomTom iPhone car kit go up for pre-sale on the iTunes app store in Europe, and then get pulled down, TomTom decided that the best way to fight the rumor mill on pricing was to put out a news release saying how much it would cost. Here [...]

Transferring features from a PDF map to your GPS

September 23, 2009 by

I learned the other day about a new 10,000 acre tract of public lands near me. There are no trail maps of the area and I am dying to explore it (once all this rain stops). I’ll probably do another post on prepping my GPS for exploring there, but this one aspect warrants its own [...]

PC Magazine survey on GPS manufacturers

September 18, 2009 by

PC Magazine has posted a great survey on GPS device service and reliability. Garmin comes in first with TomTom a close second. No big surprise there, but it’s a good read anyway. There was this little tidbit – 45% of people looking to upgrade want a bigger screen. My advice? Don’t go over 5 inches [...]

Mio Moov M300 and M400 – Black Friday specials?

September 18, 2009 by

UPDATE: Okay commenters, you’re right, it’s not the iGO interface, but it does appear to be the Navman interface, and not the Spirit. I stand by my Black Friday prediction though! Mio just can’t seem to make up their mind. When we last heard from them they were touting the Spirit interface on their S-series [...]
