TomTom XL 325 and 325-S – Black Friday specials?

UPDATE: I’ve now posted TomTom XL 325 and XL 325-S pages, complete with links to reviews
In addition to today’s announcement of the TomTom XL 340S LIVE, there are a couple of new lower-end models that have shown up on TomTom’s website, the TomTom XL 325 and XL 325-S. Well, they aren’t really new; it just looks like they are more official now.
It appears that these differ from the XL 340 series in that they only come with maps of the US and don’t include IQ Routes, TomTom’s historical traffic data. Both have a 4.3” widescreen, while the 325-S adds text-to-speech. Carrying an MSRP of $199.95 and $249.95 respectively, we suspect these units are going to be positioned for holiday discounting, albeit at a higher price point than the TomTom ONE 125.

IMHO, TomTom is seriously confusing their model line now. Whereas Garmin has caught flak from their long-time users that new models get introduced on the same hardware platform with only a feature or two separating them and even some taken away, TomTom has now fallen into the same marketing gimmicks. Their line used to be fairly understandable. XL’s had certain features while Go’s added to them. New models retained the features of the one’s they were replacing. Not true anymore. I’ll be expecting a lot of questions from buyers on what they actually are getting with the new and confusing feature sets.
I’m sure it is incredibly confusing to consumers. Sure keeps GPS blogs and forums busy though, huh?
