Its an incredibly popular unit and I think it's just indicative of sales volume.

I would check the warranty and return policy where you buy a refurb. On older units, the maps may be out of date, and the unit may not be eligible for Garmin's nuMpas guarantee.. https://my.garmin.com/maps/nuMaps.htm

Clarification:

Why is there an abundance of "refurbished" Garmin Nuvi 255w units available all over the web ?

Why is there an abundance of Garmin Nuvi 255W units available all over the web ? Is there a problem with these units ? I am planning to buy a new (not refurbished) Nuvi 255W in the next couple of weeks and I don't want to make a mistake if there is an inherant problem.
Is there any reason not to buy a refurbished unit to save money ?

Thanks.

Keep up the good work !
