Coming to the US (eventually)
There were a couple of major announcements made yesterday by TomTom and Garmin-Asus; unfortunately they didn’t involve products for the US, at least not yet. I do expect that all will be making it to our shores eventually. The Garmin-Asus team will need to romance a carrier first, while TomTom just seems to have a Europe-first attitude. Here’s what we they got…
TomTom GO LIVE 1000
This baby has a capacitive touch screen (ala the Garmin nuvi 3700 series), connected services and a completely new Webkit-based user interface that will open the doors to third-party applications. For more details, check out the TomTom GO LIVE 1000 news release and Engadget’s gallery and video.
TomTom Urban Rider
TomTom is also updating their motorcycle-centric line, finally adding a glove-friendly interface like the Garmin zumo. The Rider Pro edition will include Bluetooth. PocketGPSWorld has more TomTom Urban Rider details.
Garmin-Asus A10
This second Android phone from the Garmin-Asus collaboration targets pedestrians and is compatible with Garmin CityXplorer maps. The Garmin-Asus A10 is expected to be available in Europe and Asia-Pacific by mid-2010.
Those of us in the backwater US of A will just have to wait awhile longer for all this navigation goodness.
