Garmin Oregon 450 for $249.99

Garmin-Oregon-450

EDIT: Sorry, this deal has expired. You can find more bargains at my GPS Deals site.

Okay, I try not to double up on the deal posts too often, but this one is too good not to post here and on my GPS deals site. REI.com has Garmin Oregon 450 on sale for $249.99 through September 6. That’s $50 less than I’ve ever seen it before; REI members get free shipping too. This is an awesome deal on what I called “the best Oregon yet” in my Oregon 450 review.

Thanks for the heads up, I picked one up today as a birthday present. Your recommendation was all I needed to be confident I was buying the right one.

Cool! Let us know how it goes.

Rich…Great reviews, awesome site. How would you rank the 450 for strictly aggressive mountain bike riding/racing. I’m concerned with screen visibility, and using the touch screen with wet gloves or in the rain. Also concerned with it eating batteries for multi-day races. I’m talking about rides from 100-800 miles, self supported. Thx -rhino

There’s no great solution to the battery life issue. If you are going to be using it on the fly, you may find the new Garmin GPSMAP 62 series better, since it is easier to switch pages without looking at it.

The screen will be a bit more visible in bright sun too. Otherwise, no concern about the Oregon. I think the touchscreen responds well to input in a wide range of situations (though I haven’t tried it in the rain much).

If you already have a 400t is this a worthwhile upgrade for mostly hiking use?

  6. Rich Owings says:

I sold my 400t and bought this. I didn’t need preloaded 100K maps when I could get free 24K maps. I wanted the improved visibility of the 450 series and the firmware improvements being rolled out to x50 models but not to x00 models. So for me, the answer was yes.

I’d try calling if you really want it.

Rich….I think I was the last one to get one…I bought mine and then went back to check it out and the item was out of stock…I was lucky I guess…I bought it last night…??….I keep you posted once I get it out of the box…I’ve been reading stuff like mad on the internet about the 450..

I just ordered an Oregon 450 from Cabelas for $250. I should be home in a few months to enjoy my first hand-held GPS.
