Garmin nuvi 3760LMT and 3790LMT

Garmin-nuvi-3790LMT

UPDATE: I now have pages up for both the Garmin nuvi 3760LMT and the nuvi 3790LMT.

Like the super-thin nuvi 37xx series, but want lifetime maps? Well Garmin has you covered. Without any fanfare, these two new models have crept onto the scene and are beginning to hit store shelves, just in time for the holiday shopping season. Here’s the links:

Satmap Active 10 Trek comes to US

Satmap Active 10 Trek

UPDATE: I’ve posted my hands on review of the Satmap Active 10 TREK.

The Satmap Active 10 is finally coming to the US this week, as the Satmap Active 10 Trek. National Geographic is partnering with Satmap to offer TOPO! state series maps, Adventure Maps and Trails Illustrated maps. The unit will include a basemap, but I expect that most users would want to add some of these other options, which could make this one expensive unit, since the maps will retail for $99.99 each, on top of the $369.99 for the unit. Lets see, that’s a hundred bucks for the Carolinas, another hundred for an upcoming trip to California, and I can’t stay away from Utah. Sorry guys, raster imagery is nice, but unless I’m misreading this, your map pricing model is DOA.

TomTom XL 335SE–Black Friday star?

TomTom XL 335SE

UPDATE: I’ve confirmed that the XL 335SE is exclusive to Walmart, Walmart Canada and Walmart.com.

Walmart has let their Black Friday ad leak, and they have a special edition navigator in the line up, the TomTom XL 335SE for $79 (that link goes to a refurbished one, though they should have new ones up by sometime next week). They will also have the TomTom EASE for $59, but since that one is better known, I want to focus on what to expect with the XL 335SE.

Garmin nuvi 2200 series hits market, 2300’s MIA

UPDATE: Read my hands on review of the Garmin nuvi 2350LMT.

The 3.5” Garmin nuvi 2200 series has hit the market, with a couple models showing up at Amazon and TigerGPS. Yet the 4.3” 2300 series has yet to hit store shelves, with various sources saying they should show up anywhere from late next week to after Christmas. Sounds like Garmin may have ran into some supply chain issues with this release.

Magellan drops NAVTEQ maps for Tele Atlas

Magellan-Tele-AtlasI started hearing rumors about this a few months ago, and today we have confirmation; Magellan portable navigation devices (and apparently apps too) are switching from NAVTEQ maps to Tele Atlas. The Tele Atlas agreement covers other MiTAC owned brands as well – Mio and Navman. It remains to be seen how smoothly the switchover will go, as some early concerns have been posted at GpsPasSion by a few Maggie owners who received the new maps in a recent update.

Garmin-Rails-to-TrailsGarmin has partnered with the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) to offer six regional mapping packages at $9.99 a pop. You can preview coverage at RTC’s TrailLink site (which offers free .gpx downloads, BTW!). Here are links to the Garmin maps:

Garmin nuvi 7×5 series discontinued

Discontinued nuvi 7x5So sad. The Garmin nuvi 7×5 series has been relegated to the discontinued list, the end of the line for what has been an increasingly good deal as prices on these older models dropped below $200. Even with newer and more expensive nuvis, I still find my 765T to have the best Bluetooth sound quality of the entire Garmin line. And it’s been nice to have the powered mount option available in several reasonably priced models.

Garmin nuvi 1250T

Garmin-nuvi-1250T-review The Garmin nüvi 1250T is a special edition nuvi, adding lifetime traffic to the more common nuvi 1250. An entry-level model in a relatively new line of GPS navigators, the 1250T has a 3.5” screen. All of the new units in the 1200, 1300 and 1400 series come with customizable data fields and the ability to utilize the pedestrian and mass transit features of Garmin’s CityXplorer maps. They also have text-to-speech, so you’ll hear “drive one-half mile, then turn left on Elm Street,” instead of just “drive one-half mile, then turn left.”
