Waypoints — June 5th, 2011

Waypoints_iconWaypoints is a weekly link roundup of (mostly) GPS related odds and ends. To get many of these stories as they break, follow me on Twitter.

Garmin

  • Timing of Garmin Q3 handheld releases? They usually hit Garmin’s Chicago store a little ahead of other retailers, which should mean they’re aiming for a street date of early August to coincide with the Outdoor Retailer trade show
  • With the 62s(t)c, Rino and Astro product pages up, but no sign of the eTrex, that one may be set for a later Q3 release
  • The new eTrex line will have GLONASS support; via @gpsfix
  • Is it possible that the new eTrex series won’t have BirdsEye and custom map capabilities? (I’ve asked two people at Garmin and have gotten no response)
  • Page 15 of Montana manual (PDF link) defines Adventures feature
  • BirdsEye Topo US & Canada delayed till June 15?
  • New topo maps for compatible Garmin receivers – Indiana, Iowa and Louisiana
