UPDATE: Read my hands on review of the Garmin eTrex 20.
It looks like REI.com has beat most other vendors to the punch, as they are already shipping the eagerly awaited Garmin eTrex 20 and eTrex 30
. They don’t have the eTrex 10
yet, but I’m expecting it to show up any day.
I suspect that these will be very popular units, since they include a paperless caching model for $120 and a Garmin handheld loaded with bells and whistles for under $200. Here’s a bit more info on the new eTrex series.
And if you haven’t bought from REI, you should check them out. They have an awesome guarantee, a 10% back annual dividend for members and a great deal on free shipping right now. Other vendors are slowly getting the new eTrex models in stock. Here’s a couple more of our favorites:
And remember, when you buy through our advertising partners, you’re supporting GPS Tracklog, making it possible for us to continue bringing you the latest on all things GPS. Thanks for your support!

Just looked at one of these last weekend at the local REI – My GF liked it a lot and is now seriously considering purchasing the 30. We currently both use Oregon X50 models, but she says they are too large for her to hold comfortably (she is very petite) in her hands, and the new eTrex felt very comfortable to her! Look carefully at which options each model does and does not have before you make your final purchase!
Thanks Rich! Just ordered a 20 from REI — can’t wait give it a whirl.
Thank you! Wait till you see GLONASS birds show up on it! I have a post going up about that in just a few minutes.
I have had an eTrex 30 on order from Amazon since June. I see most others will be shipping on or about the 29th of September. I cant wait to use this and write about it.
