It is extremely lightweight and will be excellent for small treks or beginners.

The eTrex 10 comes with a preloaded worldwide base map and a mini USB port. It does not, however, have a memory slot. This 2.2 in display is monochromatic with less resolution than the eTrex 20 and is waterproof. Overall, a good choice for an entry level enthusiast.

The user interface is excellent, and features a Find button which can also be used by boaters as a Man Overboard button. Is there any portable GPS device that can upload marine navigation as well as road or driving direction over land?
Garmin actually has an entire line for road and chartplotting. Check it out here. Pretty much all of the GPSMAP devices can do both road and marine navigation.
I really like the Garmin Rino for the main reason that it allows you to talk to other members of your group via radio. In the backcountry, this can be (literally) life saving. Also, I am just biased towards Garmin due to their map databases, software, and overall quality of reception and accuracy.
