App Gives GPS Guides to Alabama State Parks

In honor of the Alabama Park System’s 75th Anniversary, a new app has been released that will give users comprehensive guides to all state parks in Alabama in one app. The Alabama State Parks Pocket Ranger app joins a suite of apps mapping out state parks, fishing guides, hunting guides and more for nearly 30 states. These apps provide not only a wonderful tool for exploring your state parks, but they are all free on iTunes and Google Play. Just search “Pocket Ranger” with your state name.

The Pocket Ranger State Park apps are designed as an all-in-one smartphone application with a range of features for hikers, cyclists, joggers and casual explorers of state parks. Some features included with these free apps include easy-to-cache GPS terrain map tiles to navigate with no signal, photo waypoints, friend finder, built-in compass, Alert feature in case of emergencies, state park trails, state park general policy and contact info, state park maps and activities including campgrounds and facilities, up-to-date park advisories and weather information, calendar of events, social media sharing capability and more. The apps also have advanced GPS maps that allow users to look at trail data, record tracks and view elapsed time and distance traveled.

The Pocket Ranger has a ton of different apps for different states including:
