The Magellan RoadMate 1700 sports one of the largest screens available of any after-market navigation device — a whopping seven inches! Clearly aimed at truck and RV drivers, the 1700 also offers lane assist and multi-destination routing.

Magellan has apparently swung a deal with ALK Technologies, makers of a couple of truck navigation products, PCMiler and CoPilot Truck. These have previously only been available for laptops and some cell phones, but the CoPilot Truck navigation software can now be ported to the Magellan RoadMate 1470 and the seven-inch RoadMate 1700.

A new auto navigator has shown up on BestBuy.com, the Magellan SE4 GPS. I’ve confirmed that this is a BestBuy exclusive, so don’t expect to see it anywhere else, at least not for awhile.

It comes with preloaded maps of the U.S. and Canada, six million POIs and text-to-speech, so you’ll hear "approaching right turn, Maple Street" instead of just "approaching right turn."

Magellan RoadMate 1475T with lifetime traffic

Magellan has announced the RoadMate 1475T, their first product with lifetime traffic. The 1475T is identical to the RoadMate 1470 I recently (and favorably) reviewed, with the addition of the traffic receiver. It carries a suggested retail price of $299 and will be available immediately.
