I don't know anything about gps for autos other than we rented a car in Europe with one and found it handy. We are headed to Japan this fall and I think it would be a good idea to have one as we are planning to drive around the country, not to mention the fact tht we recently couldn't follow some directions and i got yelled at for not understanding them! :-) So, a gps for auto will be his birthday present!
