TomTom is announcing the GO LIVE 1535 M today which, according to them, is the first PND to feature apps. Now we could quibble over that characterization, but nevertheless, they are debuting a device with Yelp, Trip Advisor, Expedia and Twitter.

TomTom VIA LIVE series heading to North America

tomtom-via-liveA TomTom VIA LIVE model has cleared the FCC, signaling the forthcoming arrival of a new mid-range connected device on this side of the pond. Available in Europe for six months  now, the VIA LIVE series should bring all sorts of connected goodness including Google Local search, weather, gas prices and HD traffic.

Hands on with the TomTom GO 2535 M LIVE

The TomTom GO 2535M LIVE is the current top of the line navigator from TomTom. Start with a 5” capacitive touchscreen, add LIVE connected services such as weather, gas prices, HD Traffic and Google Local Search. Then tack on Bluetooth, what could be the best voice recognition of any brand, lifetime map updates – well, you get the picture; this thing is loaded.

The TomTom VIA 1435TM is a high-end model in TomTom’s new VIA series. Sporting a 4.3” screen, the VIA 1435TM offers lifetime traffic and map updates (hence the TM in  the product name). This model updates a previous unit, the very popular TomTom XL 340TM, adding Bluetooth, voice commands and TomTom’s new Webkit-based interface. Like all units in the VIA 1xx5 series, this one comes with preloaded maps of the US, Canada and Mexico.

TomTom HD Traffic now available for all LIVE models in US

TomTom-GO-2535-M-LIVETomTom has announced that their HD Traffic service is now available for all LIVE models in the US, bringing it to the GO 740 LIVE and XL 340 LIVE, in addition to the newly released GO 2535 M LIVE. They also announced a reduction in the annual subscription fee from $119.95 to $59.95 per year.

UPDATE: Read my hands on review of the TomTom GO 2535M LIVE.

TomTom has announced that their new GO product line, including the TomTom GO 2535 M LIVE with HD traffic, is now shipping in the US. Initially sales will be limited to TomTom.com, Amazon, and BestBuy, though the latter appears to be the only one with the product in stock yet. And while opinions vary on how good HD traffic will be, the first reviewer at BestBuy.com sounds happy…
