GPS beats market research at own game

March 10, 2010 by Rich Owings

TeleNav is releasing some data this morning that isn’t too startling in its own right, but it speaks to a revolution in market share analysis. Companies like Nielsen and Arbitron estimate media market share, but GPS-enabled phones can do them one two better, delivering location market share data, and not just estimates either. This [...]

Garmin-Asus has announced their first Android phone, the nüvifone A50. It includes on-board maps, lane assist and junction view, comes with a car mount, and is compatible with Garmin’s CityXplorer maps. Nothing shocking there; the biggest news is availability – the A50 is expected to be available in the first half of 2010 in [...]

Not the nav app you’re looking for
Google Maps Navigation (referred to hereafter as GMN) is a free navigation app for Android version 1.6+ phones in the U.S. I bought the Motorola Droid recently (which I absolutely love BTW), so I thought I’d share my experiences with this much discussed free navigation app.
One important thing [...]

November 18, 2009 by Rich Owings

That was fast. Just a few days after we learned of its existence, Magellan’s car kit has cleared the FCC. The boys at TomTom could sure learn something from them about hustle. But hey, on top of speed, the holder just looks pretty cool. I’m still trying to figure out what the LED lens [...]

It’s official, Google has launched a free turn-by-turn navigation app – Google Maps Navigation. It’s in beta, and is only available for Android 2.0 phones (e.g., Verizon Droid), but I can already say that this is a huge change for the GPS navigation industry.

PC Mag slams nuvifone G60

October 5, 2009 by Rich Owings

Wow! PC Magazine has posted a Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60 review and they slammed it, giving it a 2 out of 5 star review, saying, “It’s like Garmin gave up halfway through the development cycle and released what it had.” This, despite some fairly positive points. It sounds like it’s a good phone and a [...]

TomTom iPhone car kit pricing

September 25, 2009 by Rich Owings

After a day in which we saw the TomTom iPhone car kit go up for pre-sale on the iTunes app store in Europe, and then get pulled down, TomTom decided that the best way to fight the rumor mill on pricing was to put out a news release saying how much it would cost. [...]
