UPDATE: Read my hands on review of the Garmin fenix.
Look what just showed up in the app store. That’s right, Garmin has rolled out BaseCamp Mobile for their new fenix backcountry sportswatch. At present it is for iOS only, although I have been told they are looking into an Android version. The app works on the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (5th generation), iPad (3rd generation), and iPad Wi-Fi + 4G, and requires iOS 5.1 or later.
Here’s a link to their blog post with more details. If you try the app out, let us know what you think in the comments!
hmmm, everytime I hit sync in iTunes, it will deselect the app so it won’t install. interesting…..
i’m getting error messages that it’s not compatible with iPad & iPhone, but I think it’s due that I have iOS 6 installed.
Are you trying to install it directly from your iPhone or iPad?
BaseCamp Mobile cannot be installed on iPhone 4, iPad 2 or iPod Touch 4. It seems it now only supports BT4.0 compatible devices (iPhone 5, 4S, New iPad, iPod Touch 5). Fenix probably uses BT4.0 to communicate with those devices for low power consumption?
Yes, that is my understanding.
I have a 3rd gen ipad running iOS 5.1.1 and I get the dreaded “this app is incompatible with this ipad” error. Does it have to be a 3g/4g ipad? I have the wifi-only model (no gps receiver). Disappointing…
It should work with it. You might want to report it at https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?30738-Garmin-BaseCamp-Mobile-app&p=148141
