Hi, great site. My question: is a car GPS still worth it? With all the tablets and cell phones that have the same capabilities, why is a GPS necessary? Many apps offer offline routing and you can download what you need. The specs on these farming or tomtom are so low compared to tablets and cell phones. Am I right in making that comparison? What do you think? I want to get a new one but for the same price I could get a google nexus 7 with built-in GPS.
Good point. I use my phone whenever I’m just running around town, but for longer trips I still prefer a dedicated device.
One problem with phones and tablets is that there is just too much going on. I’m trying to navigate with it, listen to music and then a text comes in from my wife — I’m one tap away from being a distracted driving statistic! I’d really rather have my phone beside me so I can read a text, etc. if I’m at a stoplight. And I’ve yet to see an app that is as easy to use as a dedicated device. Do I really want to tap 7 times to start routing to a destination?
These are a few of my reasons. YMMV.
Sorry, my previous post should say garmin, not farming…stupid auto correct on ipad.
Why won’t my garmin nuvi give me turn by turn direction through my jawbone?
Nuvis with Bluetooth only work for hands-free calling, not directions.
