I’m blogging for the next few days from Salt Lake City, home of Outdoor Retailer (OR), the largest outdoor gear trade show in the US. Ostensibly, I’m here to promote my book, GPS Mapping: Make Your Own Maps. But while I’m here, I’m planning to blog OR, giving you the inside scoop on what’s coming in terms of GPS and mapping software.
I’ve been using my trusty Garmin GPSMAP 60CS and their City Select software in my rental car for navigation. It got me from the airport to my sister’s house flawlessly last night. This morning though, it directed me onto West Temple Street to get to the Salt Palace, where OR is held. But the exit was labelled something like 2000 St., 5000 St., etc. Not knowing which one to take, I just stayed on the interstate, figuring it would re-route me at the next exit. And that is exactly what it did, taking me directly to the Salt Palace. Too bad it couldn’t show which side of this massive complex the parking garage was on!
Hey, the show is getting ready to start, so off I go. Keep an eye out here for the next few days. I hope to have some really cool things to share.
