TomTom ONE 125 SE

TomTom ONE 125

EDIT: Currently unavailable (as of 12/3/2009).

UPDATE: This model has been discontinued. For a list of current TomTom models and their features, please see our TomTom comparison chart.

The TomTom ONE 125 SE is set to be this year’s Black Friday star, with Walmart set to sell it for $59. The ONE 125 (pictured) was last year’s hit, and not only has the price dropped dramatically from the $99 we saw last year, TomTom has even added text-to-speech!

Technically, the ONE 125 SE is exclusive to Walmart, but we expect it, or perhaps a similar model with another moniker, will be available online Friday. If so, we’ll have it on our GPS Deals site’s Black Friday pages (I’m going out on a limb a little bit here, but you might want to check the site at 9 a.m. Friday). Otherwise, get in line at Walmart.

Here’s what we know about the 125 SE. It appears to be identical to the TomTom ONE 125, except for the addition of text-to-speech. According to TomTom, it includes the following:

  • 3.5 inch touchscreen in a slim, lightweight device;
  • Preloaded maps of the US;
  • Spoken instructions, including “text to speech” for spoken street names;
  • Preloaded Points of Interest: millions of points of interest enhance the travelling experience and help users easily find gas stations, hotels, restaurants and more;
  • Award-winning Fold and Go EasyPort® Mount, that easily folds to fit in any bag or shirt pocket.
  • TomTom Map Share™ technology, which helps users instantly modify street names, street direction, points of interest and more on their devices and benefit from corrections made by others;
  • 30 Day Latest Map Guarantee: if a new map is released within 30 days of purchase, users can download it for free at TomTom HOME;
  • TomTom “Help Me!” menu and extensive safety features, giving users direct access to safety and emergency services information;
  • Traffic ready (optional service): RDS-TMC traffic receiver accessory keeps drivers up-to-date on traffic events to minimize potential delays;
  • Fuel Prices (optional service): helps users find the lowest priced gas along the way;
  • TomTom HOME, a free desktop application keeps users’ devices up-to-date at all times. New maps or software versions can also be downloaded.

  1. I am having trouble getting the latest updates. After I set up the TomTom 125se I have been unable to get the new maps or anything. I will lwt you know how Tom Tom handles my support inquiry. This may be good info to all the people who bought the Black Friday Special Edition.

    • I have been able to update my device normally and TomTom had emailed me a few times to make sure I was okay. I did say I would get back and tell of how things went and I am happy.

  2. Rich Owings says:

    Thanks David. Looking forward to hearing back.

  3. On my first attempt to download the free map upgrade, I did receive a “server error” message. I restarted the process of checking for updates, and was successful in receiving the upgraded map.

    Can wait to go for a drive…I bought Homer Simpson’s voice to be my guide!! LOL!!

  4. do you think this will ever be offered for $59 again? It was a Black Friday special that disappeared from the market

  5. Free updates? where do you get thoses? and does the map need updated?

  6. Rich Owings says:

    For this unit, you connect it to your computer and connect to TomTom HOME. This is why units should be registered within 30 days.

  7. I have yet to find out how t register mine with the serial number. Is it a case you don’t use the serial number?

  8. When I turn on my new TomTom One 125 se , it says that “This Tomtom belongs to D. Well my name is David and I want to know how to go back and edit my owners name. I have contacted support but I want to throw this question out there to everyone. Thanks

  9. Rich Owings says:

    Not sure of these two, but…

    @Dwayne – I think you need to do this through the TomTom HOME application.

    @David – I think this is under Preferences > Set Owner, but be careful. If you back out of that menu without entering anything, you’ll see that this appears to be tied to setting a four digit security code that must be activated before use. It’s less than clear!

  10. How do I get my it to warn me earlier? I feel like it doesnt warn me early enough before I have to make a turn. Is there a way to change those settings. Also I tried to find the users manual online but I cant find the manual for this particular model (ONE 125 SE). Is that just me? Any help much appreciated!

  11. Rich Owings says:

    You can’t change that. It should give a you a warning significantly ahead of the turn and then another right as you approach it. The 130 manual serves as one for the 125 as well… http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/one30/manual.htm

  12. Diane Brown says:

    How do you delete addresses that were put into the TomTom that you no longer need?

  13. Rich Owings says:

    From the manual:
    How can I delete a Favorite?
    1. Tap the screen to bring up the main menu.
    2. Tap Change preferences to open the Preferences menu.
    3. Tap Manage Favorites.
    4. Tap the Favorite you want to delete.
    5. Tap Delete.

  14. Get a Garmin…. Tom Tom customer support stinks. Dec 1 sent in defective part… long story. today they are shipping a lessor model to me after loosing mine, putting me off and then promising me a NEW replacement. I will NEVER buy from Tom Tom again! 1/26/2010

  15. I want to take Tom Tom 125 SE to Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand. Can it be downloaded with a software for that region?

  16. Singapore and Malaysia yes, Thailand no…

    There may not be enough memory on your device for this map though. The link above has more info on this.

  18. mr bad example says:

    i got a “one” 130 last year, very happy with it. loaned it to a coworker for a week, he loved it. he bugged me for a week to sell it to him. so i did and found a NIB 125se on ebay for the same price as what i sold it to him for ($1 less than what i bought the 130 for). with ebay bucks, i made $15 on the deal! i’ve had garmin, fujitsu and tomtom GPS’s, i like tomtom the most!
