TomTom GO 500 Review

TomTom GO Amazon

Hands on with the TomTom GO 500

The TomTom GO 500 is the top of the line in the most recent editions of the GO Series, launched in January 2014 (Not to be confused with the older, clunky GO 500 model released in March 2005). The new GO 500 is 5 inches and features lifetime map updates and lifetime access to TomTom Traffic (formerly HD Traffic) services which include Jam Ahead warning, Road Work detection, Road Closing Detection and traffic cam warnings. The GO 500 comes with a windshield mount and is preloaded with US maps. It features voice command and a friendly touchscreen interface. We’ll get into the details of all of that shortly. Garmin GPSMAP 64s review

Garmin GPSMAP 64s review

Hands on with the Garmin 64s

When the Garmin GPSMAP64s was announced this winter, I was pretty excited. The older 62s is my go-to handheld, and I was psyched to see new features like GLONASS, smart notifications and preloaded geocaches. So let’s take a closer look at them… read more

A mountain biker reviews the Garmin Edge Touring Plus

Garmin Edge Touring Plus review

The Garmin Edge Touring Plus is the latest model in the company’s line of GPS cycling devices. I’ve shied away from reviewing most Edge products, which have been designed to appeal more to fitness buffs and road cyclists than mountain bikers.  But when I learned that the new Edge series focused on navigation, had a mountain bike routing mode and offered round-trip routing choices, well, my curiosity got the best of me. read more

A Geocacher’s review of the Oregon 650

Garmin Oregon 650 geocacher review

Any geocacher will tell you that their most important piece of kit is the GPSr.  Whilst some are happy to casually geocache with a smartphone, those of us who are a little more ‘dedicated’ treat the selection of a new GPSr with the upmost of care. read more

TomTom Runner GPS Watch review

TomTom Runner GPS Watch review

Hands on with the TomTom Runner GPS Watch

The TomTom Runner GPS Watch is the company’s latest offering within the running category after a few years of partnering with Nike. Garmin Monterra review

Garmin Monterra review

Hands on with Garmin’s first Android-based backcountry unit

The Garmin Monterra is the company’s first Android-based handheld GPS receiver. Since it is so different from what has preceded it, I’m going to focus my review on changes to the interface and some broader implications of having an Android-based GPS with full access to the Google Play app market.

Garmin GPSMAP 741xs review

Garmin GPSMAP 741xs review

Hands on review of the Garmin GPSMAP 741xs

The Garmin GPSMAP 741xs is an all new marine chartplotter from Garmin.  The GPSMAP 741xs has a 7″ diagonal color screen and an all new look.  In the past, Garmin has used silver bars at the top and bottom of the case.  These have been removed and replaced with an all black look that is similar to the ultra high end 8000 series.
