TomTom Launches Maps on Firefox OS Devices

According to the first quarter results posted by TomTom earlier this week, the company has been steadily losing profits in its automotive and other segments. So, I can’t say I was surprised to read that the company has continued reaching out to other corporations and pursuing partnerships in order to further its business.

TomTom has always had some of the best maps, and now customers with smartphones running Firefox OS will be able to take advantage of TomTom’s online mapping capabilities. Earlier this week, the Dutch cartography and navigation company announced a partnership with Mozill and Telefónica to bring tis Maps Online and Nav Online apps to Firefox devices.

“TomTom is excited to be embracing the openness of HTML5 to bring high quality maps and turn-by-turn navigation to the ecosystem,” Charles Cautley, Managing Director of TomTom Licensing said in a statement.  “By partnering with Mozilla and Telefónica, we’re opening new markets and opportunities for smartphone users globally.”
