It’s official — DeLorme inReach SE

DeLorme inReach SEDeLorme has quietly acknowledged the forthcoming inReach SE two-way satellite communicator. The big improvement over the previous inReach is that you don’t have to pair it with a smartphone to send and receive text messages. Also of note, the virtual keyboard uses predictive text. And while the unit is a bit taller than the original, thankfully it’s slimmed down quite a bit in the other two dimensions.

UPDATE: Win a DeLorme inReach SE!

Too bad you need to pair it with a smartphone to see you position on a map. Still, it is an improvement- the last time I went out with an inReach I also had my phone and a handheld GPS; now I can leave the phone at home. Here’s a PDF with the full specs and service plan info. The MSRP is $299.99 and the expected ship date is late April.

  1. Google is my co-pilot.

inReachSE_QuickStartGuide_V2.pdf is available on some vendors websites but not DeLorme’s. 14 pages of high-gloss goodness.
