Smallest GPS Tracker Available Online

A new GPS tracker claiming to be the ‘smallest real time GPS tracker in the world’ completed its funding on Kickstarter and is now available for purchase on their website. It’s called Trax and while I don’t know about it being the smallest, the device only measures about 1.5 inches by 2 inches and weighs around 30 grams (1.06 oz) which is pretty tiny. Trax is designed for kids and pets and can be attached to a shirt, lanyard, pet collar or any number of things.

Trax functions with a built-in SIM card and comes with two years of free data service when you purchase it, with a small monthly fee of about $5.30 charged once the two years is up. The device does have a GPS chip as well, and is compatible with GPS, GLONASS and Galileo systems allowing it to be tracked in 17 countries including the U.S., Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.

The device has several standard GPS tracker functions like geofencing and app integration for tracking on the go. Tracking via computer is expected soon. Trax is water resistant—which is definitely a necessity with kids and dogs—and durable and can detect speed and direction as well as send alerts when dropped. One really neat feature the mention in one of the videos on their site is that the faster that Trax detects it is moving, the more often it will update its location, allowing you to keep track of your loved ones on the move.

The device can be purchased from the Trax website for $249 and comes in four colors: raspberry red, blue, orange and green. Check out this nifty video they put together about the tracker:

Comments

  1. The FAQ says the monthly fee is (Euro) 3.95 after the first two years. So around $5 or $5.50 a month depending on the exchange rate at the time.

  2. Is this available in the us and if so is there a store I can buy it?

  3. Does this real time GPS works when you are hiking in the mountain, and where can one view the location using what system. what is the time to locate hikers
