Garmin BaseCamp video tutorials

Garmin’s BaseCamp program is powerful but it can be confusing to new users. Fortunately, Garmin has posted a series of video tutorials covering most of the basics. Even the introductory video is good as it clearly explains what “My Collection” is and how the lists under it can be used. There are Mac and PC versions of the videos. I’m filing this under handhelds, although BaseCamp can be used to a certain extent with some auto units too. Here’s the Intro to BaseCamp for PC video, followed by a full list of the BaseCamp tutorials…

If these aren’t detailed enough for you, you can find more videos posted by other folks at YouTube. Just type Garmin BaseCamp into the search box.

It would be nice to be able to convert google my maps to load on to Garmin……

    • You can add a map from Google Maps to many handhelds using Garmin Custom Maps, but you won’t get POIs or routing. And you can add POIs from Google Maps one at a time to almost any Garmin.

  2. Hello. I have tried numerous times to run the Apple store version of Basecamp on my mac running osx mountain lion and base camp locks up every time i run it. i have removed it and reinstalled it and the same problem occurs again. Is their a fix for this? Livio

  3. I just found what appears to be a more current version of base camp for mac v.4.0.1. Before it opens a window appears which says that this is not the most current version and i should go to the help menu to update it, but it locks up before i can update it. Is their a fix for this? The Basecamp version in my previous comment was 3.3.2. Livio

  4. can I use base camp with a Oragon and a usb cable to track in real time on my lap top screen ?

  5. As a pilot who uses good, intuitive mapping software as a necessity…and a Garmin fan who has owned at least 6 different Garmin GPS devices, Garmin Basecamp has to be the biggest disappointment I have ever experienced. Terrible human factors, not intuitive, difficult to use and even harder to synchronize your devices.

I recommend the engineers get some project managers with experience hunting, hiking, and just generally being outside on foot. Big disappointment. Almost worth returning my new Garmin 64st.

  6. Helpful information. Lucky me I found your site by accident, and I’m stunned
why this accident didn’t took place earlier! I bookmarked it.

  7. great informative article. Also in additional you can add google map to it.

  8. Great Articole. Thank you for sharing this man.
    Best regrads
