Out with the old, in with the new

Out with old in with newJust a few quick notes to keep you up to date on discontinued units and new introductions hitting the market…

Garmin has discontinued quite a few handheld models, most notably the eTrex H(C)(x) series, pushed out by the very popular new eTrex 10/20/30 models. Also on the the chopping block, the Astro 220 and Rino 5x0HCx models. Road warriors may bemoan the loss of several diminutive nuvis, the 12xx series and the 2200, as well as the transatlantic 1370T.

Yet the boys in Olathe giveth even as they taketh, as a couple of versions of the priced to sell Forerunner 10 have started shipping. At the other end of the cost spectrum, there is a new Forerunner 910XT triathlete bundle available. And while Amazon is a little slower to get new products, they have started shipping both the Garmin fenix and Garmin GLO GPS + GLONASS Bluetooth receiver.

Color your sports

Garmin has also announced some colorful special edition Forerunner 210 and 610’s (pictured above), and a new Approach S1, which should be hitting the market soon. TomTom seems to think offering color choices adds to appeal too, as they have just announced a silver and white edition of their joint Nike+ SportWatch, along with a red and black version exclusive to BestBuy.
