On the heels of Garmin’s newest dash cam/GPS hybrid unveiling, Magellan has announced that it will soon be releasing an updated series of dash cams. With the exception of the lowest-priced device, all of the cams have GPS tracking abilities to automatically record your tracking information along with the camera features. However, unlike the most recent Garmin devices, these units are strictly dash cams and do not provide any routing features.

There are several new models which are scheduled to be released in August 2015: MiVue 508, MiVue 538, MiVue 638 and MiVue 658. All of the units have the sorts of features you’d expect on a dash cam including:

  • Impact sensor
  • Anti-glare lens
  • 1080p full HD recording
  • Wide Angle Lens to record the entire street
  • Rotating Mount
  • Event Recording Mode to detect changes and save important videos
  • Parking Mode to record accidents that happen in the parking lot while you’re away
  • Camera Mode so you can also snap photos
  • MiVue Manager to browse videos

The cameras range from $150 – $250 and some of the higher priced cams also feature additional perks like GPS tracking, a touch screen, an integrated Wifi to back up photos. While it’s not much in the way of navigation, dash cams can protect drivers from fraudlent claims and provide an unbiased witness to teh road.

“No matter where the road takes you, our new MiVue DashCam devices for 2015 have the ability to record every vehicle journey,” remarked Pedersen.  “Plus, each model includes an Impact Sensor and Rotating Camera, so whether driving down the street or across the country, drivers can count on these Magellan DashCam units to provide peace of mind.”
