Nuvi tip – hold down the back button

Garminnuvibackbutton

I discovered a new nuvi trick today while perusing some YouTube video reviews. Say you’re deep into the menus, perhaps entering an address, and you want to go back to the main menu. Instead of hitting the "back" button numerous times, just hold it down.

Maybe this is a well-known tip that I had just missed, but it’s new to me. It works on my nuvi 660 and, according to this YouTube video, it works on the 200W. So I’m assuming it works on all models. If you try it out on a different model, let us know in the comments section below.

Comments

  1. Its also mentioned in the Tips section of the owners manual.

  2. Allory,
Which manuals have a “tips” section? I don’t see it in my 660 manual. Maybe there are more I don’t know about!

  3. The nuvi 660 manual does. In the preface, page iv says:
    Tips and Shortcuts
To quickly return to the Menu page, touch and hold Back.
Touch and hold scroll arrows to scroll faster.
To switch the audio output between the nuvi and an FM stereo, quickly press the Power button twice.
    etc.

  4. I saw this tip in a manual for the 750 and was happy to see it worked when used on my 350.

  5. Thanks Allory. I looked in the index and TOC. Never thought of looking in the preface. I probably knew this at one point in time. I guess that’s one of the problems with testing so many units — I’ve probably forgotten half of what I learned about many of them!

  6. Michael Robertson says:

It works on my Nuvi 200. I found it in the built-in help manual. It annoyed me at first that I had to press “Back” so often, so I was very happy to find it.

  7. Works with the Magellan Maestro 3250 as well.
