UPDATE: Read my hands on review of the Garmin nuvi 40. I’ve also posted pages for the nuvi 40LM and nuvi 50LM.
Yes, that’s right; although they were just announced yesterday, the nuvi 30, 40 and 50 series are already available. Not only that, but it turns out that there are more models than we thought. GPS City has apparently beaten everyone to the punch – here’s what they have for you:
Model | Screen size | Maps | Lifetime map updates | Price |
---|---|---|---|---|
nuvi 30 | 3.5” | 49 states | No | $99.99 |
nuvi 30 US+CAN | 3.5” | 49 states + Canada | No | $109.99 |
nuvi 40 | 4.3” | 49 states | No | $119.99 |
nuvi 40 US+CAN | 4.3” | 49 states + Canada | No | $129.99 |
nuvi 40LM | 4.3” | 49 states | Yes | $149.99 |
nuvi 40LM US+CAN | 4.3” | 49 states + Canada | Yes | $159.99 |
nuvi 50 | 5.0” | 49 states | No | $139.99 |
nuvi 50 US+CAN | 5.0” | 49 states + Canada | No | $149.99 |
nuvi 50LM | 5.0” | 49 states | Yes | $169.99 |
nuvi 50LM US+CAN | 5.0” | 49 states + Canada | Yes | $179.99 |
As you might have surmised, none of the Garmin nuvi Essential series have maps of Alaska. You’ll have to wait for the Advanced or Prestige series for those. Also of note, the Essential series offers some features previously not found on entry-level models, such as junction view, lane assist and speed limits, as you can see in the video below (I’ll add that the split screen junction view isn’t found on the 3.5” model, and may only be present on the 5” nuvi 50 series).
