UPDATE: See my hands on Magellan eXplorist 310 review.
The Magellan eXplorist 310 has been announced ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show, bringing an entry-level model to the new eXplorist handheld GPS line. The 310 utilizes the same hardware as the eXplorist GC, which has a smaller, non-touch screen as opposed to the eXplorist 510, 610 and 710. As an aside, I’ll have a hands on review of the eXplorist 710 posted in the next few weeks.
Priced at $199.99, the 310 comes with Magellan’s World Edition map, which has NAVTEQ worldwide road coverage. Summit series topo maps can be added via the 500MB of internal memory available to users; regional topo maps are due for release in the near future. Also notable, like other new eXplorist models, the 310 offers paperless geocaching capabilities. The eXplorist 310 is expected to be available in March.
EDIT: The full news release is now available.
Great news ! This will surely help bring Magellan back into the forefront of GPS handheld sales. This will also be good medicine for ailing Triton owners who’ve had their share of issues with the unit, and VantagePoint updates, that are no help to the Triton. I’ll be anxious to see this one in stores !
Thank you, Magellan !
Well i do not know where you get your information, but the summit series maps are not compatible with the 310.
The news release and product page clearly says they are compatible, but the Maps & Software tab on the product page doesn’t list it. I’ll try to get an answer from them.
