I rarely see much discussion of the Garmin RINO series. I am interested in them, but they seem very overpriced for what you get. I do think the features could be quite useful, however. If they could have a version similar to the Motorola DTR550/DTR650 http://www.motorolasolutions.com/web/Business/Product%20Lines/MOTOTrbo/Portables/_Documents/Static%20files/dtr_Final_RPD_PropMgmt_Brochure.pdf on the legal, license free 900 mHz band they could avoid the existing FRS/GMRS users.
Conversely, if they had a VHF version on MURS frequencies, they could probably get further range outdoors than the current models. I am not sure if the existing FCC rules for MURS would allow all of the functionality of the current RINO units, though. If I recall correctly, Garmin sought and received special permission for the RINO units to do position polling.
Like this model just think it’s too pricey anyone know where to buy similar model for less
Trust me, it’s easily worth the money. When it comes to thing like this I would recommend dropping a little more money, you won’t regret it in the long run.
Very nice clock we can see in here and i know most of the viewers are choose this clock. Well technology and and new design makes it standard. So i think it will be more popular in the market.
Thanks for the detailed review. Is it still available on the market?
Incredible review. Thankfully it i still available on the market.
I’ve had one of these units for a long time. Still works.
These garmins were fantastic. Mine still works like it did 10 years ago.
Great device!
Perfect, I will be using one of these at my party hall!
NOT worth the money! Within a few months the radio stopped working on it, could not hear others through it. I use a gps year and was extremely disappointed in this one after paying $500 for it!
Dear Rich Owings, your post has one thing that caught my attention! Its information is more useful than many other articles on this topic. Anyway, can you extend your supports a little more with the GPS? That would be a great help to our website Fishing Kayak and most of its potential readers.
After spending some time reading your article on GPS, I got to say you, hello. I think it’ll save me serious time doing the research for one of the resources for our community as well as the website.
Thanks for sharing the article.
Great review! And congratulations. I think you picked a winner. Thanks for sharing your thought process and criteria, including cost – I know that’s a touchy subject!
