Yep, I finally broke down and bought a nuvi 660. From GPSNow of course (and I noticed today that Amazon’s price has gone back up). I gotta say, I was impressed with the speed of delivery. I ordered my nuvi on the day after Thanksgiving (Friday), and it was here Monday afternoon. Total shipping and handling? $7.55 for USPS Priority Mail. And no sales tax. Man, you can’t beat that!
So far, I’ve been very pleased with the nuvi. As always, Garmin comes through with very intuitive menus. This is one of their true strengths.
What else have I noticed?
First of all, it’s so light, I may not have the vibration on the windshield mount that I’ve noticed with heavier units. I live far away from freeways, so I haven’t had a chance to check that out at high speeds yet.
I’ve been playing with the FM transmitter, MP3 and cell phone / Bluetooth features quite a bit. I was very pleased that my Motorola 710A works with it, even though it’s not currently listed as a compatible phone. It took two tries but it even imported my phone book.
I also entered a bunch of favorites, and I haven’t stumped the nuvi yet, even when I searched for some pretty obscure stuff. Having 6 million POIs sure helps!
I can’t wait to take it on the road over the holidays. I may have to get down to the city before then just to test out the traffic features.
Check back here often for updates. I don’t want to rush a comprehensive hands-on review, but I will get one posted before too long. A lot of that depends on when I can immerse myself in traffic.
