Garmin nuvi trip log (the thin blue line shows where you’ve been)
Garmin has certainly upset their customers before, but few things have raised the ire of folks as much as the inability to clear the trip log on the 2012 and 2013 nuvi Essential series (including the popular 50LM model). The trip log is that thin blue line you see above, showing where you’ve recently traveled. read more
TomTom has announced the Bridge, a 7″ ruggedized Android device for fleet managers. The tablet-like device will include an NFC chip, 5MP camera, Bluetooth, WiF, a 3G modem, rear camera compatibility, and a replaceable battery. read more
Magellan’s new Android-based RoadMate 5430T-LM
Magellan has announced their first Android-based personal navigation device (PND), the 5″ Magellan RoadMate 5430T-LM. Previous RoadMates have used Windows CE as the underlying operating system. read more
The 7″ Garmin nuvi 2798LMT comes with a wireless backup camera

Garmin has announced their 2014 nuvi Essential series, featuring 5″ and 6″ models, a 7″ nuvi 2798LMT with a wireless backup camera, and lower prices.

Garmin has announced the Dash Cam 10 and Dash Cam 20, high-definition cameras that mount to your windshield giving you a continuously recorded, wide-angle, high-definition video of all your road warrior exploits. read more
Magellan’s new dash cam PND
Looks like Magellan wants to get into the dash cam act too, albeit with a twist. Rather than a standalone unit like the one announced by Garmin this morning, Magellan has opted to add one to a PND, the RoadMate 6230T-LM PND DashCam. read more
Magellan’s latest RV unit
Magellan has announced the 7″ RoadMate RV9490T-LMB, which offers live weather and gas prices via a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone. Information can also be preloaded via WiFi. read more
TomTom GO 2014 series

The US will finally get the new TomTom GO series, perhaps within a year of when they were announced for Europe. The company still hasn’t released model numbers, saying “more details, pricing and availability will be announced closer to the launch date late Q1 2014.” read more

Last week, TomTom announced the results of a University of Michigan study that “concluded that TomTom’s iPhone Navigation App and GO 2535 Portable Navigation Device provide the most accurate real-time traffic data, when compared to a number of competing products.” As I pointed out in my weekly link roundup, TomTom paid for the study (full PDF report available here), which raises questions of bias.
