Garmin nuvi 2400 series hits the market

Garmin nuvi 2460LMT

UPDATE: In addition to my hands on review of the nuvi 2460LT, I’ve now posted pages for the Garmin nuvi 2450, nuvi 2450LM, and the nuvi 2460LMT.

The 5” Garmin nuvi 24xx series has hit the market, and I suspect they are going to be quite popular. I was certainly very impressed with the nuvi 2460LT I recently reviewed. The custom avoidances and advanced detour features are welcome additions, and I expect many folks will consider the 24xx models the top of the line, since they seem to focus on function while the 37xx is more about style. Here’s where you can grab one:

Biggest GPS jammer ever, courtesy the FCC

gps_satellite_altThere’s been a spate of stories recently about how we’re over-reliant on GPS, and while some threats are overblown, GPS jamming can be more serious, especially on the scale tentatively approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Wha? Read on my friend…

Garmin nuvi 2460LMT

Garmin nuvi 2460LMT

The Garmin nüvi 2460LMT is one of Garmin’s recently released 5” ultra-widescreen navigators comprising the nuvi 24xx line. In addition to the big screen, these navigators bring many other high-end features at a relatively reasonable price, including several not found on the nuvi 37xx series, such as custom route avoidances. Which makes the 2460LMT one of, if not the best, nuvi yet.

The Garmin nüvi 2460LT is a relatively new 5” ultra-widescreen introduction from the nuvi 24xx line. In addition to the big screen, these navigators bring many other high-end features at a reasonable price, including several not found on the more expensive nuvi 37xx series, such as custom route avoidances.

Garmin nuvi 2350

Garmin-nuvi-2350The Garmin nüvi 2350 is one of the recently released models in Garmin’s 2300 series, which brings the best features from the 3700 series, minus the exorbitant price tag. These include a historical road speed database for improved routing and the ability to learn your preferred routes over time.

Custom avoidances and advanced detours

custom-avoid-roadWhile testing the Garmin nuvi 2460LT, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it has the custom avoidances feature heretofore restricted to the nuvi 5000 and the 8xx series.  I believe that another feature, advanced detour functionality, is entirely new for the nuvi line (and I’m sure a reader will correct me if I’m wrong!), so let’s start with that one. Oh, one other thing to prepend, and again, correct me if I’m mistaken, but it appears that these features are limited to the 24xx series, and are not found on the 22xx and 23xx models.

TomTom rolls out GO 2435 and 2535 models

TomTom-GO-2535-M-LIVE

UPDATE: Read my hands on review of the TomTom GO 2535M LIVE.

Without a bit of fanfare, TomTom has posted a bevy of new models to their website, giving us a sneak peek at the GO 2435 and 2535 series. It appears that all of the models share the thin form factor and capacitive touchscreen we first saw on the GO 2505TM, along with a new (and much needed) intuitive voice recognition feature. Here’s how they describe it:
