Well this is a surprise. Rand McNally has just announced their first handheld GPS, the Foris 850. The Foris is a result of a partnership with Falk Navigation, a European manufacturer. The Foris 850 appears to be based on their Lux 22 model. read more

Is GPS tracking of guns possible or practical?
Ever since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary, I’ve been seeing proposals calling for GPS tracking for guns. I don’t really see how this would work, since GPS tracking systems require a power source and a transmitter. read more

When Garmin and Asus ended their ill-fated nuvifone partnership, Garmin gave Asus an exclusive for any preloaded navigation apps through the end of 2012. Because of this, quite a few Garmin watchers expect an announcement of a Garmin navigation app for Android early this year. But that may not happen. read more

The Magellan eXplorist 350H for hunters
Magellan has announced a new hunting handheld, the Magellan eXplorist 350H, which appears to be based on the eXplorist 310. The 350H offers preloaded 1:100,000 scale topo maps with game management units (GMUs), GMU geofences, hunting specific waypoints (shown above), and comes with a one-year subscription to satellite imagery. read more
Garmin has discontinued more auto units, including the connected nuLink 1695
With the announcement of the 2013 nuvi series, we were expecting Garmin to move more models to the discontinued list. That has indeed happened; in addition to several 14xx series models, they’ve also pulled the plug on the nuLink 1695, and most 2xx0 and 37xx models.
