I might as well call this the train wreck edition, for more reasons than one. Hopefully all the links work; I had some problems this week with the plugin I use to handle bookmarked links – you may see many redirect thru Delicious before resolving to the proper URL. Here’s what our readers bought over the past month… The rankings below are based on the number of units sold on GPS Tracklog, through our various partners like Amazon and REI. The Garmin nuvi 50LM claimed the top spot on the auto side once again, but we have a new champion on the handheld list – the Garmin Oregon 550. On to the charts…
The Garmin Oregon 600 series uses a new .ggz file type for geocaches
UPDATE: The new format may just be a compressed .gpx file (speculation, but it makes sense). Also, apparently the new Oregons will support .gpx files:
The Oregon can hold an unlimited number of geocaches and supports GPX files from OpenCaching.com for downloading geocaches and details straight to the unit.

Magellan eXplorist GC with National Geographic Topo maps
The latest update to the geocaching-centric Magellan eXplorist GC has given it the ability to accept National Geographic Topo and Digital Globe aerial imagery content. The GC has no expansion slot, but does have 500MB of memory available for added maps, etc. This doesn’t turn the GC into a great hiking unit, as I believe it still lacks some significant navigation features, but it should expand its capabilities for both urban and backcountry geocachers. read more
