TomTom for Android set for October release
EDIT: I’ve added a video after the break.
TomTom has announced that their long-awaited Android app will be released this October. While prices were not announced, we do know that lifetime map updates, text-to-speech, IQ Routes and advanced lane guidance will be included, while HD traffic and speed camera alerts will be available as in-app purchases. read more
Garmin GPSMAP 78
The Garmin GPSMAP 78 brought a major update to the GPSMAP 76 handheld line. Garmin had a huge hit with the 60/76 series, and instead of messing with a winner, they turned their attention to new interfaces, which were introduced on the Colorado series, followed by the touch screen Oregon line. These new units brought the ability to add custom maps and aerial imagery, paperless geocaching, and high-resolution screens, but the latter made them less than bright (although later models like the Oregon 450 have largely solved this problem).

And with its small size (2.1″ x 3.7″ x 0.8″), it will easily fit into your shirt pocket.

7″ Garmin dezl 760 offers truckers big screen and active lane guidance
UPDATE: Read our Garmin dezl 760LMT review page.
As I predicted, Garmin has chosen not to cede the 7″ truck/RV market to Magellan, as they have just announced the Garmin dezl 760. Updating the dezl 560 series, this behemoth offers more than just a big screen. Like recent nuvis, it can utilize Smartphone Link to send all sorts of data to the unit from an Android smartphone, such as weather, fuel prices and traffic camera images. read more

Magellan RoadMate 5230T-LM review
Hands on review of the Magellan RoadMate 5230T-LM
The Magellan RoadMate 5230T-LM is a new (mid-2012) high-end navigator with a 5″ touchscreen, featuring Landmark Guidance. This will give you instructions like “turn left at McDonald’s on Highway 112” instead of just “turn left on Highway 112.” It also offers lifetime map updates and live traffic, along with a year’s subscription to traffic camera alerts. About the only missing features are Bluetooth and voice command. read more
Magellan tackles fleet management
One of the few chances PND manufacturers have of surviving these days to is diversify into the ever-expanding niche of opportunities that GPS continues to bring. Fleet management has long been the domain of small companies, but just like Garmin and TomTom before them, Magellan is now jumping into the game too. read more
