The Garmin nüvi 2460LMT is one of Garmin’s recently released 5” ultra-widescreen navigators comprising the nuvi 24xx line. In addition to the big screen, these navigators bring many other high-end features at a relatively reasonable price, including several not found on the nuvi 37xx series, such as custom route avoidances. Which makes the 2460LMT one of, if not the best, nuvi yet.

Custom avoidances and advanced detours

While testing the Garmin nuvi 2460LT, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it has the custom avoidances feature heretofore restricted to the nuvi 5000 and the 8xx series. I believe that another feature, advanced detour functionality, is entirely new for the nuvi line (and I’m sure a reader will correct me if I’m wrong!), so let’s start with that one. Oh, one other thing to prepend, and again, correct me if I’m mistaken, but it appears that these features are limited to the 24xx series, and are not found on the 22xx and 23xx models.

TomTom rolls out GO 2435 and 2535 models

Without a bit of fanfare, TomTom has posted a bevy of new models to their website, giving us a sneak peek at the GO 2435 and 2535 series. It appears that all of the models share the thin form factor and capacitive touchscreen we first saw on the GO 2505TM, along with a new (and much needed) intuitive voice recognition feature. Here’s how they describe it:

nu Feature: Via point data fields

Hey, what do you know! While testing the Garmin nuvi 2350LMT, I found yet another new feature. You know how you can touch the left data field on newer models to change what is displayed? There are now three new options when actively navigating: Via Arrival, Distance to Via and Time to Via. And as with the 13xx and 14xx series, if you go to Tools > Settings > Navigation > Automobile > Map Data Layout > More Data (whew!), you can get more fields to show up on the right, as pictured above. I like the Via Arrival option; quite useful!
