The US will finally get the new TomTom GO series, perhaps within a year of when they were announced for Europe. The company still hasn’t released model numbers, saying “more details, pricing and availability will be announced closer to the launch date late Q1 2014.” read more
Last week, TomTom announced the results of a University of Michigan study that “concluded that TomTom’s iPhone Navigation App and GO 2535 Portable Navigation Device provide the most accurate real-time traffic data, when compared to a number of competing products.” As I pointed out in my weekly link roundup, TomTom paid for the study (full PDF report available here), which raises questions of bias. A Friday afternoon tweet is a low-key way to announce this, but it looks like the 6″ TomTom VIA 1605 M RV is now available in the US
TomTom has announced a new high-end TomTom GO series this morning, including 4.3″, 5″ and 6″ models. While the details aren’t entirely clear, it appears that all models will include a capacitive multi-touch display and 3D buildings. read more

The new fifth generation TomTom Rider for motorcycles is coming to the US. The most interesting new features are a larger 4.3″ glove-friendly screen, a “winding roads” feature to give you the curviest ride, and route management with Tyre or via a new “Upload Routes and Go” capability that will allow you to save online routes to the device. The Rider also includes Bluetooth for sending audio instructions to your helmet. read more

After nearly three years, it looks like TomTom will be getting back into the motorcycle market with the TomTom RIDER 5. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s been even longer since the US saw a RIDER unit, with the last one being the RIDER 2, introduced in 2007. read more
Ouch! Consumer Reports has posted an article that is very critical of some of TomTom’s integrated mounts. I’m not sure they are being entirely fair though. With the exception of the START series, they are criticizing mounts from discontinued units. read more
