The Garmin GPSMAP 547xs is an all new marine chartplotter recently introduced by Garmin. The GPSMAP 547xs has a 5″ diagonal color screen and an all new look from Garmin. The traditional silver bars at the top and bottom of the case have been removed for a very stylish all black trim ring. The major upgrade over the previous generation is wireless capability (WiFi and Bluetooth) and the sounder module was upgraded to include CHIRP technology.

It’s been a few months since we first heard the rumors, but today the Garmin Monterra has finally been announced. Boasting an Android operating system, the Monterra can utilize apps from the Google Play Store. It even has WiFi to allow for direct downloading of apps. read more

I was a bit surprised this morning when I saw this comment…
…these days if you choose multiple products to install on your device from Basecamp they are uploaded as separate img files anyway so you do get one per product.
Google announced late this morning that it has acquired Waze, the Israeli company behind the popular crowdsourced navigation/traffic app of the same name. Seen by many as a defensive move, Google’s main reason for the purchase may be to keep it out of the hands of Apple or Facebook, although there are other possible reasons as well.

Garmin has announced an RV-friendly navigator this morning, the Garmin RV 760LMT. The 7″ unit creates custom routes based on the size and weight of an RV and features the America’s RV Parks & Services Directory. read more
